STATE CENTER -- A Gowrie man who had previously been reported missing out of Webster County suffered severe injuries as the result of an accident at the intersection of Durham Avenue and Highway 30 near the southern edge of State Center on Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release issued later that day.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., Marshall County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) deputies were dispatched to the aforementioned intersection for a crash involving a commercial tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. By the time they had arrived on scene, the tractor trailer driver, 38-year-old Joshua Good of Ogden, had emerged from his vehicle uninjured, but the driver of the passenger vehicle, 89-year-old Robert Craigmile of Gowrie, was severely injured.
Craigmile, who had been reported missing in Webster County on Tuesday, was transported to the UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown and later transferred to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for advanced care.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the MCSO. Also assisting at the scene were the State Center Police Department, UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown Ambulance Service and the State Center Fire Department and First Responders.
A separate press release issued by the State Center Fire and EMS Department reported that a single car was on its top in the median, a semi was jack-knifed in the east bound lane of Highway 30, and a pickup/trailer was in the south ditch from avoiding the accident.
"All vehicles involved in the collision blocked both east bound lanes of traffic forcing all traffic to be diverted north to Old Highway 30," the release reads. "Due to a continued investigation of the accident, we will not be releasing any images or any further information."
