CLUTIER - The four-piece polka band Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchmen headlined a packed ZCBJ Hall in Clutier last Friday night, July 31, after rain forced the annual Bohemian Plum Festival band concert, coordinated by Tracy Sienkneckt, to relocate inside from its usual Main Street dance floor. Folks of all ages taking a polka turn were mightier in number this year due to the Hall's more uniform hardwood floor. Several of the roughly 100 people in attendance Friday evening told the newspaper the atmosphere felt like "old times" inside the historic Hall, including Bohemie David Podhajsky who said that years ago, chairs would be tightly lined along the walls for women to sit while waiting for a male partner - usually loitering at the back of the room or spilling out into the street - to gather his courage and ask for a dance. As Becky Livermore and her band filled the spacious room with their blend of German, Czech and Slovenian-style polkas and waltzes, rain pattered down outside the open windows and doors while people danced, enjoyed freshly made Indian tacos and reminisced.
