Marshalltown City Councilor Sue Cahill appears in latest Sand campaign ad

At-Large Marshalltown City Councilor Sue Cahill is the latest person touting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand in a new advertisement released Monday.
"I have been following Rob in his campaigns and as he has served as state auditor," she said. "I believe that position can do a lot of good for the state, but the legislature and current governor have limited the powers of the office."
Iowans outside of Marshall County will not encounter the ad, which is only playing on social media platforms. Cahill believes it will run up until the time of the election, Nov. 3.
In the less-than-30-second ad, Cahill says that as a council member, she is accountable for taxpayer money, because it belongs to the citizens, not her. Sand also carries the same belief.
“As auditor, he uncovered a record amount of misspent tax dollars and caught corrupt Democratic and Republican politicians. As governor, he'll grow our economy, lower costs and make jail time mandatory for public officials who steal from us," Cahill says. "Marshall County, Rob Sand is the right choice for governor."
This is not the first time the local and state politicians have helped one another out during a campaign or with efforts. In 2024, Sand appeared at an event in support of Cahill's bid to get reelected to the District 52 Iowa House of Representatives seat. However, she lost to Republican challenger David Blom. His office also responded to Cahill's request for an investigation into the Iowa Veterans Home the same year.
Cahill has been a regular face at numerous Sand events in Marshall County.
"I have attended Rob's county visits at Elk's Park each year," she said. "I have respected his work as auditor. He was kind enough to campaign for me. I am honored to work with and endorse him."
Cahill stands by everything she said in the ad and believes Sand would be a governor for every Iowan, not just ones who vote for him in the race against Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn.
"We need a more balanced approach to our Iowa government, not just the majority view," she said.
