A former Marshalltown High School (MHS) secretary who also previously served as the head girls soccer coach received a suspended prison sentence at a hearing held last Friday, according to court records.
Stacy Ann Galema, 36, entered an Alford plea for a single count of enticing a minor, a Class D felony, over an inappropriate relationship she had with a student while serving as a school employee. She has been ordered to serve a fully suspended prison sentence not to exceed five years with credit for time served.
She will also be required to pay a $1,025 fine with a 15 percent crime services surcharge, and Galema will be placed on probation for five years and required to register as a sex offender. The sentence was imposed by Judge Kathryn E. Austin.
A series of character reference letters were also submitted as evidence in support of Galema, who had no prior criminal record. Galema was originally charged with two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee, one a Class D felony and the other an aggravated misdemeanor, and lascivious conduct with a minor, a serious misdemeanor, last November over allegations that she carried on an inappropriate relationship with a student between 2014 and 2020.
