Ground broken on Toledo’s Woodlawn Housing Addition

TOLEDO -- History is being made all over Tama-Toledo these days. Last Wednesday, a group of civic leaders gathered in the pouring rain to break ground on a project years in the making. The Woodlawn Housing addition is being developed by Toledo Ventures LLC, aka John (Andy) R. Anderson.

Anderson spoke before shovels were touched, saying how he wanted those in attendance to picture what they were creating.

"Years from now, someone will drive down this street with their children, point to one of these homes, and say, ‘That's where I grew up,’ or maybe, ‘That's where my grandparents used to live," he said.

Mayor Brian Sokol is eager to see the project move forward.

"This is a huge milestone for Toledo. The city took a leap of faith with a major financial investment in a project that started over 20 years ago to provide high quality housing," he said. "I look forward to working with Toledo Ventures and am excited to see the first phase get started this fall."

It's not as simple as 10 new single-family homes that they broke ground on, but the place where memories will be made for decades to come. As Anderson said, "The day I'm looking forward to is when we put keys in someone's hand, and they open the door to their future."
