Funeral services were held for Roger Rohweder, 80, of rural Gladbrook, on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Peace United Church of Christ, with Pastor Robert Doner officiating. A message in music was provided by Jaclyn Sherman and June Bessman. Gordon Arp and Carroll Wegner served as ushers. Keith and Sandy Johannsen, Steve and Joyce Hutcheson, Bonnie Johannsen, and June Johannsen served on the Flower Committee. Roger’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as pallbearers. Full Military Honors were performed by the Gladbrook American Legion Ehrig-McTurk Post 127. Guests were present from Iowa River Hospice and the Gladbrook High School Class of 1951. Roger was laid to rest in the Crystal Cemetery. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home was entrusted with caring for Roger and his family.

Roger Rohweder, 80, of rural Gladbrook, died late Tuesday night, November 5, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown with his family at his side and the presence of his wife, Anna Mae, and son-in-law, Kenny, waiting for his arrival.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook with Pastor Robert Doner officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the Ehrig-McTurk American Legion Post in the Crystal Cemetery. Born on December 18, 1932, at the family home, he was the son of Walter and Augusta (Landt) Rohweder. He attended the rural country schools and graduated from the Gladbrook High School. During his younger years, he raised many champion cattle.
Roger served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he farmed near Gladbrook all of his life. He was an active member of the Peace Church and served on the church board, was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, and Lions Club, as well as an active member and past-commander of the Gladbrook American Legion. He was proud to have involved his grandchildren in raising the school flag on the first day of school every year.
On May 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to the true love of his life, Anna Mae Dettmer, at the Peace Church. They shared 56 wonderful years together when she passed away on March 4, 2012. Roger treasured his family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as traveling, bird-watching, trips to the casino, and Mississippi River to watch the boats and barges, gardening, raising cattle, and he never had a bad day fishing! He and Anna Mae enjoyed short trips with the grandkids over the years as well. He left his legacy with his family making barns and dollhouses for the grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Lori Sanderson of Gladbrook; and Julie (Brad) Hooper of Conrad; his son, Steve of Gladbrook; four grandchildren: Jason (Paula) Hamann of rural Gladbrook, Jaclyn Sherman of Gladbrook, Jake Hooper of Grundy Center, and Katie (Ryan) Rasmussen of Ankeny; his great-grandchildren: Ashley, Matt, and Jordan, and blessed with the addition of Raelynn coming next month. Also surviving are his sisters: Melva Vint of LeGrand, Jan Klar of Dike, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In death he has rejoined his beloved Anna Mae, his parents and son-in-law, Kenny “Chief” Sanderson.
