Peter Macauley Carter, 34
Peter Macauley Carter passed away on July 22, 2014 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Peter was born on December 29, 1979 to Jane and Macauley Carter, Jr. of Marshalltown, Iowa. He was educated at the East Marshall schools, where he received his high school diploma in 1999; at Marshalltown Community College, from which he graduated with an AA degree in 2001; and at Wartburg College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003.
Peter was a member of BSA Troop 329 of Le Grand, Iowa from childhood. He was an Eagle Scout and, in recent years, an Assistant Scoutmaster. Peter faithfully attended the Le Grand Friends Church of Le Grand, Iowa since birth.
Peter was an athletic young man of unusual endurance and physical strength; a man of moderation in habits and tastes; a strong swimmer and triathlete; and a splendid and experienced long distance runner. He had a long record of distinguished performances in community road races in Iowa. On the road especially, Peter excelled. He was in his element; and he revealed an astonishing and steely resolve, as the road, and the miles, fell away behind him, season by season, hot or cold, rain or shine, year upon year.
Peter is survived by his parents, Jane and Mac; by his sisters, Catherine Carter (Andrew Thomson) of Andover, MA; Caroline Carter (James Fisher) of Indianapolis, IN; and Mary Patricia Carter of Marshalltown, IA; by his niece and nephews, Susanna, Samuel and Andrew; by many admiring aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the United States; and by his faithful dog, George.
A service in memory of Peter will take place at the Le Grand Friends Church on Tuesday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m.
