Kirby Hasselmann, 66

Funeral services for Kirby Hasselmann, 66, of Marshalltown, were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating.

Darren Hasselmann, Jared Hasselmann, Steve Swartz, Randy Lunde, Stacy Voigt, Ralph Rosenberger and Jim Rohweder served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Francisco Varela, Ryder Hasselmann, Hunter Hasselmann, Day Hasselmann, Abel Varela, Brody Bell, Jeff Hasselmann, Rob Reinhard and Schelby Edwards.

Guests were in attendance from United Bank and Trust, U.A.W., Lennox, Fisher Controls, Fareway, and the Gladbrook Class of 1966.

The Mitchell Family Funeral Home was entrusted with caring for Kirby and his family.

Kirby Elmo Hasselmann was born on February 25, 1948, in Freeport, Illinois. He was the son of Elmo Everett and Wanda Elizabeth (Caiflin) Hasselmann. Kirby attended school in the Gladbrook Community School District, graduating with the class of 1966. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. On January 12, 1996, he was united in marriage to Carmen Sue Backhaus. They lived in Marshalltown their entire married lives. Kirby owned Project Pro and worked for Lennox Industries. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and they were number #1 in his life. He enjoyed Corvette rides with Carmen and always had a home improvement project in the works.

Left to cherish Kirby’s memory is his wife of 19 years, Carmen, of Marshalltown. Children: Shay (Jennifer) Hasselmann, of Las Vegas, Deja Hasselmann, of Marshalltown, Eric (Krystal) Bell, of Granger, and Brooke (Francisco Varela) Bell, of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Dona Hasselmann, Ryder Hasselmann, Dulce Hasselmann, Hunter Hasselmann, Day Hasselmann, Abel Varela, Lydia Bell and Brody Bell. Brother, Don (Carol Mead) Hasselmann, of Gladbrook.

In death, Kirby rejoins his parents, Elmo and Wanda Hasselmann, and mother-in-law, Claudia Backhaus.
