Elizabeth Jean Banzhaf Smith, 95
Elizabeth Jean Banzhaf Smith, 95, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Central Iowa Healthcare, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Faith Open Bible Church, 1402 East Anson St., Marshalltown. Visitation will be 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown, (641)753-5511. Jean was born July 18, 1921, to Frederick and Mildred (Goebel) Banzhaf, in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Marshalltown High School, in 1939. Jean was united in marriage to Paul Franklin Dieffenderfer. Five children were born to this union. She married Kempton Lee Smith on June 21, 1959, in Marshalltown. She was a homemaker most of her life. Jean worked several seasonal jobs including, Willards, Herman’s, JC Penney and Donnelly Corp. She also worked at a nursing home in bookkeeping and typed for Mr. Block. Jean attended Faith Open Bible Church.
Jean will be missed by five children; Marian (Steven) Hyde, of Marshalltown, Alice (Thomas) Bell, of Lakeville, MN, Larry (Gail) Dieffenderfer, of Cincinnati, OH, Paula Jean (James) Nablo, of Marshalltown, Dorothy Dieffenderfer, of Park Forest, IL, two step sons; Jackie (Trudy) Smith, of Marion, IA, Richard Smith, of Le Grand, IA; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Dieffenderfer and Kempton Smith; two sisters: Margaret Banzhaf, Marianne Schreckengast, and a brother, John Banzhaf.
