Lillian M. Long

Lillian went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, under the care of Mercy Hospice.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 12-NOON, Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services, from 11 a.m. until 12:00 noon, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Lillian’s family, in her name.

Lillian Marie Long, 90, was born February 4, 1927, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Nelson) Mahle. She was a Le Grand High School graduate, Class of 1944, and later attended the business college in Marshalltown.

On May 9, 1945, Lillian was united in marriage with Paul Duncan Long in Seattle, Washington. Together Lillian and Paul co-owned and operated Long’s Custom Carpet in Newton. She had devoted her life to her family, and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a past member of the Wittenberg Church and Wittenberg Grange.

Lillian is survived by her children and their spouses: Jeff and Nancy Long, of Newton, John and Jean Long, of Omaha, NE, Margie Hathaway, Annette and Dan Thompson and Cathie Mundell, all of Newton; her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many good neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul on July 1, 2005; and her sisters and brothers.
