Leland Ray Staker, 85

Leland Ray Staker, 85, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Leland will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Leland Staker was born on December 12, 1932, in rural Tama County to Fred “Fritz” and Grace Riekena Staker. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1950. Leland served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1953 until his discharge in 1961. During this time he was stationed in Korea and involved with the Korean conflict. His military background was very important to him, as he received numerous medals. He was united in marriage to Karen Rowe from 1968-1979. Leland was a farmer and also worked many years for Pippert Grain and Milling in Gladbrook. He was a devoted Allis Chalmers man and after his retirement in 1994 he continued his love of Allis Chalmers by collecting AC and other collectible toys and tractors. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Gladbrook where he spent many years as a commander of Legion Post as well as serving numerous other roles. He was also active in other veterans organizations including Korean War Veterans Associations, Voiture 40 and 8 569 post in Marshalltown and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 in Marshalltown. In Leland’s spare time he enjoyed attending national Legion convections, toy tractor shows and auctions and later in life spending time with his grandchildren.

Leland is survived by his children: Damon (Tara) Staker, of Johnston and Aaron (Marisa Carlson) Staker, of Reinbeck. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Carson, Calleigh and Berklee as well as his sister, Lovelle Rohach, of Hudson.

Leland is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Grace and a sibling that passed at a very young age.
