Rosella Hartwig, 86

Rosella Hartwig, 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Alan Dietzenbach officiating.

Public visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 with a Vigil and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Rosella’s name to Iowa River Hospice, St. Mary Catholic Church or to her family. Rosella Kunkel was born on September 14, 1931 on the farm in Haverhill, Iowa, the daughter of John and Bertha (Freese) Kunkel. Rosella was educated in the St. Mary School District graduating with the Class of 1948. On November 22, 1950, Rosella was united in marriage to the love of her life Robert Hartwig at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haverhill, Iowa; they had lived in Marshalltown their entire married life. Rosella had worked as a cook at St. Mary School, where she retired from.

She was a proud member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and Funeral Choir. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and didn’t miss watching a game on TV or listening to the game on the radio. She had a passion for cooking, baking (especially chocolate pies and lemon desserts), she loved to sew and quilt and made quilts for all her family. She loved and adored her family and always enjoyed anytime spent with them camping, fishing, or playing cards.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ronald (Mary) Hartwig of Marshalltown, Randy (Marlene) Hartwig of Marshalltown, Rosanne (Dan) Anderson of Marshalltown, Ricky Hartwig of Mounds View, MN, Raelene (Mike) Sommerlot of Marshalltown, Rob Hartwig of Mesa, AZ and Renae (Steve) Williams of Bethel Park, PA; grandchildren: Chad (Tammie), Ryan (Crystal), Kelly (Ben), Matt (Jamie), Tim (Kelly), Melissa (Clint), Tena (Simon), Terah, Tyler and Trey; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Esther (Jim) Nusbaum of Marshalltown and Marilyn (Al) Spafford of Marshalltown.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Kunkel; in-laws, Earl and Ruth Hartwig; brothers, Bill (Deloris) Cyril (Mary) Urban (Coleen) Ed (Carmen) and Elmer Kunkel.
