Mildred “Millie” Swanson, 101, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., until the time of the services, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Millie was born October 2, 1916, the daughter of Mikael and Katie (Thygesen) Mikkelsen, on the family farm in Coon Rapids, IA. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School. Millie was united in marriage to Clifford Swanson on July 29, 1939, in Atlantic, IA. They had one son, Craig. Millie was a homemaker and she and Cliff owned Swanson Kitchens in Marshalltown. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Post-war Welcome Wagon in Marshalltown in the 1950’s, the Red Hat Society in the 2000’s and many others in between.
Millie is survived by grandchildren: Thomas Kennedy, of Bloomington, IN, Jessica (Adam) Edelstein, of Milwaukee, WI, and David Doane, of Los Angeles, CA; one great grandchild on the way; as well as her sister-in-law, Lenore Mikkelsen, of Guthrie Center, IA; and her nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her son, Craig; her brothers, Alvin and Wilson; and her sister, Ramona.
