Leonard was born on October 6, 1928, to the parents of Carl and Lena (Landt) Raum in Tama County. He grew up in the Tama County and graduated from Gladbrook High School. After graduation, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country. Upon his return home, he married the love of his life Marjorie Wallace on August 28, 1954, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Leonard was employed by Fisher Controls for over 37 years. During his time at Fisher Controls he worked as a machinist and retired in boiler management. His love of tinkering crossed over into his daily life fixing many things with Duct Tape and wire. He was ahead of his time installing geothermal heating in his own house before many knew about it. He loved his John Deere tractors and was in disbelief when his children surprised him one Christmas with a new tractor for his collection. When Leonard was younger he and Marjorie took a trip to Alaska, while on the road they had a break down and were stuck for over two weeks, after that trip not many more were planned. Leonard never met a stranger and always saw the good in everyone that he met. In his later life Leonard loved to read Popular Mechanics, National Geographic and spending time with friends and a farming operation in the Gladbrook area. Leonard leaves behind a memory that will be cherished by all that had the privilege of knowing him.
