Helene is survived by her children: Jeanne (Steve) Armstrong, of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Greg (Jenny) Edel, of Marshalltown, Anne (Curt) Sinks, of Aurora, Colorado, Joe (Leisa) Edel, of Marshalltown, Sharon (Terry) Whaley, of Marshalltown, Chuck (Susan) Edel, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Doug Edel, of Anamosa, Ken (Sara) Edel, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Marisue Edel, of Marshalltown and Daughter-In-Law Peg Edel, of Marshalltown. 16 Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers; Don (Mary Lou) Schemmel, Leon (Ruth) Schemmel, Tom (Mary Pat) Schemmel, Bob (Susie) Schemmel, as well as her many nieces and nephews, in-laws and other loving family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. A Rosary service was held at 4:30 PM, Wednesday, December 5th, immediately followed by visitation from until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
