Arlene Gladys Harmon, 97, was born October 10, 1921, at home in rural Liscomb to Walter Clifton and Leo Jenny McRill Brown. At a young age, Arlene rode her Arabian horse, Lady, to school in Liscomb. She was a tomboy at heart, influenced by her two older brothers. Arlene chose to be baptized at the age of 14. She was a guard on the high school basketball team and graduated from Liscomb High School in 1939. She went on to play basketball while attending college at AIB in Des Moines, IA. Arlene married Oral Darl Harmon on July 17, 1941, in Lancaster, MO. They lived for a short time in Chicago, then moved back to Iowa where they farmed for 40 plus years with her brother, Glen and Darl’s brother, Don, in Marshall and Grundy counties. Here their three children Patricia, Stephen and Joyce were born and raised. Arlene kept the farm records, prepared meals for the farm workers and had a large garden each year canning much of the produce. Arlene was a 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, was active in the Conrad United Methodist Women and the BCL Booster clubs. She was a member of the Social Hour Club and Treasure Seekers. In later years, Arlene enjoyed walking, aquacizes, reading, flower gardening, watching ISU basketball games, attending her grandkid’s activities, and staying in touch with family on her iPad.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Patricia (Alan) Schiebel, of Conrad, IA, Stephen (Cathy) Harmon, of Sand Springs, OK, and Joyce (Keith) Kruse, of Everly, IA; seven grandchildren: Lynnly Evans, of Iowa Falls, IA, Erin Hoffmann, of Altoona, IA, Darci Tiger, of Glenpool, OK, Tina Walenciak, of Lucas, TX, Abigail Bury, of Broken Arrow, OK, Javan Kruse, of Hartley, IA, and Alecia Tolzin, of Alta, IA; 17 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Donald Harmon, of Lincoln, IL; sister-in-law Betty Harmon, of Santa Cruz, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
