In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Pete’s name to the Marshalltown VFW Post 46 which he was a proud member of.

Arnold was born on September 19, 1924 to Alois and Mary Goschey Menzel. He grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa. He attended St. Mary Catholic School. He worked at Mead’s Dairy most of his working career. Arnold was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Legion of Guardsman, VFW Post 46. Pete served his country proudly during WWII from 1943 to 1946.

Pete was a people person who had numerous lifelong friends. Most people didn’t know Arnold but the minute you said “Pete” Menzel they instantly knew him. He loved to play cards, Cribbage and slot machines. He loved to dance until his stroke in 2013. He never knew a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back.

Arnold was united in marriage to Helen Dwight on April 7, 1948. She preceded him in death. He married Thelma Foran on October 28, 2011.

Arnold will be missed by his loving wife of 7 years, Thelma; who took such loving and good care of him after his stroke; three children: Robert (Jan) Menzel, of Marshalltown, Vicky (Bill) Risk, of Tempe, Arizona and Diana (James) Ward, of Conrad. Along with five step-children: Robert Bunting Jr. (Isis), Jon Bunting (Carol), Sheila Kruckenberg, Roger (JoAnn) Bunting and Patches Harris.

Seven grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren, along with numerous step-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Mary Menzel; his first wife, Helen; sisters, Gertrude Kendall and Dorothy Dodd and brothers, Harold and Leo Menzel, along with two brothers-in-law, George Kendall and Ernie Dodd and sisters-in-law, Irene Menzel and Winnie Menzel. A daughter Rebecca Ann in infancy.
