Funeral services for John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Kodis officiating. Public visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where John’s family will be present to greet friends. John Michael Kunc was born on January 10, 1971, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Michael LaVern and Betty (Sharpshair) Kunc. He was raised and educated in the Marshall County School District where he graduated from Marshalltown High School. Following high school, John went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa with two majors.

John was a very hardworking man, where he was most recently the Director of Marshall County Planning and Zoning Department, Public Environmental Health Department and Weed Commissioner. He was a proud member of the Iowa Public Health Association and a lifelong member in his band “Loose Neutral” where he was the lead vocalist and guitarist. He had a passion for collecting football cards, fishing and photography.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Michael and Betty Kunc; one brother: Chad (Stacey) Kunc; Aunts and Uncles: Karlene (Jerry) Jantzen, Patti (Dean) Winegarden, Phyllis Eygabroad and Ken (Becky) Sharpshair.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Lester and Doris Kunc; Russell and Marjorie Sharpshair and other family members, Lela Huss, Larry Kunc and Gary Sharpshair.
