Norma Antoinette Vanderah was born on June 22, 1927, on a farm east of Haverhill, IA. She was the 10th and youngest child of Henry and Josephine (Kopel) Vanderah. Norma attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Haverhill, graduating from 8th grade and then completed 9th Grade at Ferguson High School. In 1945, Norma graduated from Van Cleve High School. After graduation, she worked in the filing department at Fisher Control and Cooper Manufacturing Company. On April 29, 1947, Norma was united in marriage to Franklin Polley at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill with Rev. Louis Grunewald presiding. After they were married, they settled in Marshalltown where they lived all their married life. Norma was an active member of St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved attending her grandson’s baseball and football games, not missing one. In 1977, Norma went to work in the business office of Trowbridge Construction which later operated Walkers Wrecker Service. May 1, 1981, Barry’s Auto Parts acquired Walkers Wrecker Service and Norma took a bookkeeper position with them until her retirement. She loved to dabble in poetry. You knew you were special if you received a poem that Norma wrote about your special event. She also enjoyed playing cards, fishing with Frank, traveling and was a top chef in frying tenderloins.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Frank; their son, Dennis (Marilyn) Polley, of Haverhill; grandsons: Kevin (Kelly) Polley, of Sedalia, MO; Ken (Nancy) Polley, of Brookfield, MO; Kurt (Kristin) Polley, of Marshalltown; great grandchildren: Colin, Tyler, Cassidy, Drake, Trent, Eli, Leah and Avery; and very close friends, Barry (Emily) Ewoldt, of Haverhill.

Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings: Henrietta, Alvin, Marie, Victor, Verena, Henry, Vincent, Arthur and Clair.

Norma’s family would like to extend their appreciation to Norma’s caregivers, besides her husband, Frank, Accura Health Care and Iowa River Hospice.
