Born on April 5th, 1931, he was the son of William and Goldie (Lutes) Stowell. He grew up in Albion and graduated from the Albion High School. Following graduation, he was employed in several different occupations and businesses from driving a school bus to ownership in McRill-Stowell Insurance in Albion and Marshalltown. He also stood ready to serve our country honorably if needed in the Iowa National Guard for nine years.

On August 3rd, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, “Ginny” Stolzman in Macon, MO. They made their home in Marshalltown and truly lived life to the fullest. He had a passion for flying and most recently camping at Twin Anchors in Colo- meeting many friends there. He was a life-long Hawkeye (so don’t wear any red/gold to his service) and was talented in carpentry, electrical work and fixing things around the house. He enjoyed simple things in life and the Chicago Bears. Many will remember his words of wisdom and advice, fondly known as “Ray-isms” that will carry his memory for years to come. Ray and Ginny enjoyed their years wintering in Florida, vacationing with family and friends, attending the Buddy Holly Reunions and simply traveling by car- because there was no way Ginny was getting back into a little plane with him! Ray was never hesitant about taking on any adventure. Most of all, he loved and treasured his family- leaving his legacy instilled in all of them.

Left to cherish his memory is Ginny, his loving wife of nearly 52 years; his daughters- Karen (Marty) Sharer of Marshalltown and Teresa (David) Gallagher of North Liberty, IA; five grandchildren- Ryan Sharer (fiancée Megan) of Cedar Rapids, Katie (Zac) Stebniski of State Center, and Luke, Haley and Zach Gallagher all of North Liberty. It is undocumented, but well-known that his granddaughters could do no wrong! Also surviving is his brother, Pastor Richard (Carol) Stowell in New Mexico; in-laws- Herb (JoEllen) Dickkut, Nancy (Randy) Dickkut all of Marshalltown and Kathy Clawson of Albion and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In death, Ray rejoined his parents, his sister Phyllis (the late Ralph) Loffgren, brother-in-law Dr. Robert Louis Clawson and sister-in-law Joanne (the late Kenneth) Callen.
