Harriett Joyce Chambers, 82

Harriett Joyce Chambers, 82, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 2, 2021, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be given and a memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with burial to follow at the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time. The family is requiring everyone in attendance to wear their mask and adhere to social distancing. Harriett was born on September 14, 1938 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Edgar and Fay (Miller) Werner. She grew up there and graduated from the Oskaloosa High School. On February 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles Chambers in Oskaloosa. They came to Marshalltown in 1961 where Harriett worked at Piggly Wiggly and later at Smitty’s Big Town Foods and Econo Foods as a bookkeeper. She also had helped several families by proving daycare in her home. She enjoyed the Thursday’s T.O.P.S. club and trips to the casino to listen to the bands and socialize with people. Harriett was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Jane (Warren) Chizek, Penney (Glen) Stewart, Karri Sanders all of Marshalltown and Scott Chambers of Albion; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren and her sister, Mary Calhoun.

In eternal life, Harriett is reunited with her parents; her husband, Charles; three sisters: Betty Weimer, Dora Cole and Ruth Finch; her brother, Robert Werner, a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
