Jerry Robertson, 85

Jerry Robertson, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa and formerly of Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 16, 2021 at the Hubbard Care Center.

Services for Jerry will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Jerry Lee Robertson was born November 30, 1935 to parents Afton “Tony” and Sarah Kate (Bennington) Robertson in Grinnell, Iowa. He was the oldest of three children. Jerry was raised in Marshalltown, Iowa and he grew up attending school within the Marshalltown Community School District. In 1954, he graduated from Marshalltown Central High School. He took additional classes following his high school graduation at Marshalltown Junior College.

On June 9, 1957, Jerry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Ann Viers at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Together they raised their three sons, Bruce, Brad, and Brian. Jerry worked for over 40 years for Fisher Controls as a parts order entry manager until his retirement in December 1997. Following his retirement and passing of his wife, he returned to work part time for Fisher Controls.

Jerry served in the Army National Guard for six years. He was a field artillery crewman and qualified as a carbine 30 cal. marksman. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1964.

In his free time, Jerry loved to be at home whether working on his garden, mowing the lawn, reading the daily newspaper or watching TV. He volunteered for the Marshalltown Emergency Food Box and the House of Compassion. Jerry loved to be with his family and tell stories. He was an independent and tough man, one that you could go to if you needed help. He was a hard worker and persevered through many things in his life.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Bruce (Ruby) Robertson, Brad (Renee) Robertson, and Brian Robertson; his grandchildren, Zach (Michelle) Robertson, Hannah Robertson, Halle Robertson, Megan Robertson, Kelsey (Josh) Cronin, Jenna Robertson, and Adam Robertson; his great-grandchild, Brooks Robertson; and his siblings, Bob (Judi) Robertson and Joan (Dale) Ballard.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and his parents, Tony and Sarah Robertson.
