To honor his wishes, cremation rites have been given and a memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2021 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with full military rites given by the American Legion and VFW Combined Honor Guard Unit. No visitation is planned

Bob was born on January 11, 1924 in Elkader, Iowa to Elmer August and Laura May (Chase) Scheffert. His family later moved to Marshalltown where he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1942. In 1944 he joined the United States Army Air Corps.

On August 4, 1946 Bob was united in marriage to Florene “Flo” Wilson in Tulsa, Oklahoma and returned to Marshalltown shortly after. Their extraordinary marriage of over 73 years was admired by many. Bob would say “not a record but better than average!”

Bob held the position of Assistant Corporate Service Director for Lennox Industries for 33 years. After taking an early retirement, he decided to take on a role as Facility Manager for Ritchie Industries where he worked for an additional 15 years. Bob was an active member of First Baptist Church (Journey Church) for many years where he served as Deacon, Trustee and even oversaw HVAC on the new church built in 1976.

Most would describe Bob as loving, caring, generous and gracious. Those who knew Bob well may have been treated to a ride in his private plane. He and his wife Flo loved to entertain family and friends at their lake house at The Lake of the Ozarks and their beloved home for over 30 years on Governor Rd. Both which he built with his own two hands. He was his grandson Lue’s number one fan! Ball players remembered him being in the first car following the school bus to ALL away games.

Bob’s sweet smile, wisdom and art of storytelling will be missed the most.

Bob is survived by his daughter Cathy (Scheffert) Beaumont; grandson Lue (Erin) Beaumont; great grandchildren Gavin and Blythe Beaumont; brother Clarence Scheffert and cherished family by grandson Lue’s marriage; Kirstan, Rick, Callie, Clayton, Barb, Alix and Sydnee Condit.

In death he has joined his wife Flo, parents Elmer and May Scheffert, brothers Bill and Gene Scheffert, sister Sarah Joesting and sisters-in-law June and Doris “Dode” Scheffert.

A memorial service will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Bob’s name to the Iowa River Hospice House, 502 Plaza Heights Rd., Marshalltown, Iowa.
