Kay was born July 2, 1954 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Earl and Marilyn Nolta Staebler. Kay received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. On December 1, 1978 Kay married Charles “Chuck” Sjodergren in Marshalltown.

Kay was vice president of Sjodergren Development. Throughout the years Kay was generous in supporting the needs of Regina and the University of Iowa. Chuck and Kay enjoyed the time spent in Melbourne, Florida.

Most important to Kay was her husband, her boys, and her family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the wonderful caregivers at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Kay is survived by her husband of 43 years, Chuck and their sons, Robert (Svenja) of Neuenfelde, Germany and John of Miami, Florida; her mother Marilyn Staebler of Marshallown; her sisters, Karla Sue (Don) Holt, Kathy Jo (Dennis) McClure, Kris Ann Staebler, and Karen Louise (Allen) Steenhoek, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Kay was preceded in death by her father, Earl.
