Larry Mayer, 71

Larry Mayer, 71, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of August 13, 2021 at Unity Point Health: Iowa Methodist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

At this time cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Full military rites for Larry will be held at 7:00 P.M. on August 30th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A time of open sharing of memories will be held from 4:00 until 5:00 P.M. Larry Earnest Mayer entered into the world on February 25, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born and raised by his parents Earnest “Ernie” and Anna (Wagner) Mayer. Growing up he worked at his parent’s store Mayer’s Street Market in Marshalltown. While attending school as a teenager, Larry worked for Smith Music Company. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in the class of 1968. Following high school Larry worked for a number of years for Strand Baking Company as one of their drivers.

Larry was a dedicated worker to all jobs he worked but he enjoyed his time working for EF Mack Plumbing. Throughout his numerous years with the company and until his retirement, he had done just about every position including other jobs such as a welder and craftsman. He was also one of Marshalltown’s journeyman plumbers.

Larry went on to marry Nyla Lynn Jebousek and through this union a son Andrew and a daughter Amy was born. Larry was united in marriage to Cindy Mayer and they had one daughter Allison.

On May 20, 1995, Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life Anita (Kluck) at the Willard Mansion in Marshalltown. Over a number of years, they celebrated numerous events together as well as countless fishing trips by the river that serve memories for lifetimes.

Larry was a charter member for MIBWICC and in his free time he enjoyed fishing trips, watching westerns on the TV, having anything to do with being outdoors, working on his own hot rod, taking rides and showing his hot rod at car shows, and winning the trophy and being highlighted for catching the biggest fish one year.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Anita Mayer, his children: Allison Mayer, Amy Schmidt and Andrew Mayer: his step-children William (Robin) Saling, Timothy (Luella) Saling and Heidi (Byron) Sunkle; His 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three siblings; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
