John was born March 27, 1954 in Marshall County Iowa to Francis “Bud” Jensen and Edith Jensen (Mullen). He spent most of his childhood living outside of Marshalltown before moving with his family in 1968 to rural Melbourne. John spent his childhood working on the family farm, riding his family horse and being active in FFA and conservation.

After high school he married Joyce Barron (Lang) and had 4 children. They farmed outside of Lamoille most of their marriage. After divorcing, John moved to Montana and worked as a ranch hand at a ranch outside of Two Dot, Montana. He loved working there and spending the winters in a cabin up in the mountains feeding cattle with a team of Belgian horses. After moving back to Iowa he began farming with his dad on the family farm outside of Melbourne. He loved being with his kids, grandchildren and family. John loved dancing, working with his team of Clydesdales, fishing, hunting, wood working, and everything farming. John continued to farm and enjoy his animals even when his health declined and his stubbornness kicked in. John lived on hard work, pride and love for the farm life and family.

John will be greatly missed by his family: his four children: Joshua (Connie) Jensen, Jake (Mindy) Jensen, Jessica (Ryan) Howard, Joey (Chris) Rudkin. His longtime girlfriend Janella Reece; his thirteen grandchildren; Brenton (Mindy) Jensen, Bradley (Julia) Jensen, Brittany Jensen, Brianna (Reiley Garrett) Watlington, Cora (Myles Miller) Dolley, Sophia Dolley, Reid Jensen, Desmond (Jordan) Anderson, Maxine (Nic) Olerich, Caleb Renes, Mason (Emma) Rudkin, Cael Rudkin, Brooklynn Rudkin; four great grandchildren: Kashley Jensen, Vincent Olerich, Brandy Rose Anderson and Nova Miller; his brother Mike Jensen and his sister Judy Paul.
