Gertrude “Dottie” Pennington was born July 31, 1932, in Gideon, Missouri, to Wilson and Grace (Osborne) Brown. Dottie was united in marriage to Dennis Bornholdt on October 2, 1948, in Clinton, Iowa. The couple had two children together and lived in the Davenport area until his passing in 1952. Dottie later moved with her children to Tucson, Arizona, where she met the second love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Pennington. Dottie and Chuck were married on April 18, 1956, in Tucson where Chuck was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Dottie and Chuck went on to have two children together and Chuck adopted Dottie’s two daughters from her first marriage. As a military family, they moved often throughout their lives, being stationed mainly in the Southwest United States and West Germany. In 1974, they retired from military life and moved back to Chuck’s hometown of Marshalltown, Iowa. Throughout her life Dottie worked at various jobs in retail sales/accounting, finishing her career at Younkers in Marshalltown in the late 1980’s. Her one true calling, however, was as a loving Mom and Grandmother to her large extended family. After retirement, Dottie and Chuck loved wintering in Texas where he would fish and she would read and visit with friends. Dottie was active in various churches throughout her life and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran church at the time of her passing. Dottie enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, playing cards, quilting, sewing and crocheting, but mostly she loved spending time with family and friends. In 2016, Dottie and Chuck moved to The Embers where she loved making new friends, playing cards, tossing bean bags and many other activities. Dottie will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Dottie is survived by her three children; Linda (David) Schroeder, of San Antonio, Texas, Brad (Kathy) Pennington, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Audrey (Skip) McConnell, of Eldora, Iowa; two brothers, Dale Brown, of Missouri, and Norman Brown, of Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren.
