He graduated from Marshalltown High School and attended Parsons College, then lived and worked in San Francisco and Des Moines. He retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa.

Kurt is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Ed Shuey, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, nieces Sara Sevec (John), of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Melissa Stanley (Dan), of Chattanooga, TN, nephew Diego Gary, great nieces: Lindsay Sevec Wilson (Dillon), Annie Sevec Bertrand (James), Cara Sevec, Elle Stanley, Sarah Stanley and great nephew, Will Stanley, as well as dear friends: Holly, Eric, Bayleigh and Jaidyn Grund, of Des Moines, Doug and Margaret Delker, of Norwalk, and Dee Dales, of Des Moines.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother David and sister Jean, and dear friends Floyd and Teddy Herman, of Des Moines.
