Byron Henry Pfantz was born August 31, 1937, to parents Harold and Freida (Koppey) in State Center, Iowa, where he attended school growing up. He worked on the family farm for many years following his schooling and into early years of his marriage.

On June 28, 1959, Byron was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna Crum. Together they started their family raising two daughters. They called the Albion and Marshalltown area their home for many years. Byron worked for Fisher Controls in the maintenance department for years until his retirement in the 1970’s.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown as well as a member of the U.A.W. Local 893 in Marshalltown. In his free time, Byron loved to work in his yard whether general lawncare or mowing his yard. His family was everything to him and he spent all the time he could with his grandkids and great grandkids. Another favorite way for Byron to pass time was to tinker on projects around the home or sitting back to read through the National Inquirer.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Rachel (Art) Nelson and Linda Atha; his grandchildren: Nathan (Lee Ann) Grewell, Kristin (Eric) Sager, Danielle (Joel) Downs and Joshua (Joanna) Atha; his step-grandchildren: Erin (Mike) Vaughn, Nicole Nelson and Whitney (Chase) Kaufman; his great grandchildren and step great grandchildren: Kailynn Grewell, Owen Sager, Brynn Sager, Jace Sager, Knox Atha, Nash Atha, Brodi Atha, Addysyn Skyberg, Brylee Nelson, Cael Kaufman, Trenton Kaufman, Quinton Nelson, Beckham Vaughn and Greyham Vaughn; his sister Dorothy Davis; alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Donna Pfantz; his parents Harold and Freida Pfantz; his siblings, Darwin Pfantz, Kathryn Saint and Phyliss Thompson; his great granddaughter, Molly Grewell and great grandson Daniel Sager.
