John B. “Jack” Grier, 84, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at his residence in Marshalltown surrounded by his family. Cremation rights have been accorded by Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Per Jack’s wishes, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be sent to Iowa River Hospice, 502 Plaza Heights Road, Marshalltown, IA, 50158, who took such loving and compassionate care of Jack during the last stage of his life. Jack was born September 18, 1938. Jack grew up in Ottumwa and attended the University of Iowa. While in college, Jack was a student manager of the football team and relished the perks of the job, such as being a letterman, but especially receiving one free season football ticket for the next 63 years! Jack was a successful and accomplished trial attorney who held positions in both private practice as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Des Moines. He spent most of his 60-plus-year career at Cartwright, Druker & Ryden in Marshalltown. Especially proud of his induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers, Jack had a true love of the law. When not in the courtroom, his next favorite place to be was the golf course. Jack was a former Club President at Elmwood Country Club and was an avid golfer.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Donnis; children: Alison Grier, Douglas Grier, John (Susan) Grier and grandchildren: David, Paul, Katie, Maggie, Sarah and Jack.
