Larry was born on February 9, 1944, to Lawrence and Irma (Bockes) Hughes in Marshalltown, IA. He was born and raised in Conrad where he lived his whole life. Larry attended the Beaman Conrad High School, graduating in 1962. He then attended Marshalltown Community College. Soon after school Larry joined the military serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1965 to 1967. Larry was previously married where he was blessed with his daughter Katrina. Larry spent his adult life self employed as a long-haul truck driver and later was also a truck driver for Green Products Company. On March 18, 1994, he was united in marriage to Phyllis (Lawson) Hughes where they spent their time in Conrad until her passing in 2010. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 681 in Conrad, Masonic Lodge 108 in Marshalltown and a member of the Alice Church of God.

Larry will be dearly missed by his daughter; Katrina Hughes, of Columbus, OH, brother, Alan Hughes, of Glendale, CA, and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Rex Graf, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Irma and wife, Phyllis.
