Velda May Nicholson, 93
Velda May Nicholson, 93, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Velda was born January 22, 1930, on the family farm south of Marshalltown. She was the fifth of six children born to John and Nellie (Clark) Levis. She was a graduate of Marshalltown High School. Velda was united in marriage to Al Nicholson, April 14, 1950. They made their home in Marshalltown and LeGrand, Iowa. During her lifetime, Velda worked at the Jack Spratt canning factory, Cooper Manufacturing and Marshalltown Manufacturing. Velda enjoyed ceramics, boating, camping, crocheting and riding motorcycles.
Velda is survived by two sons, John (LuAnn) Nicholson, Rochester, MN and Terry (Sande) Nicholson, Casa Grande, AZ. She had 10 grandchildren: Jason (Laura) Nicholson, Angela (Matt) Krull, Lisa (John) Wilson, Jared (Blake) Nicholson, David (Stephanie) Nicholson, Matthew (Erin) Nicholson, Nicole Paxton, Tara (Randy) Price, and Kate Nicholson. Velda also had 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al, sons Michael and Al Nicholson, grandson, Alan Nicholson, her parents, four brothers: LeaDean, Homer, Max and Bernard Levis and one sister, Norma Bennett.
