Services for Gerry will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2023, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials in Gerry’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Geraldine Ann Barry was born September 8, 1942, to parents Joseph and Betty (Harmon) Barry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On December 1, 1962, Gerry was united in marriage to Harold Dean “HD” Barnard while HD was serving in the United States Army on the east Coast. They then came back to America’s heartland where she primarily took care of her family but also spent time working as a teacher’s aide. Gerry and HD began a family of their own having three children, Charles, Diana and Jackie.

Gerry was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in State Center until the time that they closed and then began attending Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Her kids meant the world to her and she loved to be able to decorate her home for all of the holidays.

Gerry is survived by her children Charles Barnard, of Bethany, OK, Diana Barnard, of Marshalltown, Iowa; her three grandchildren: Amanda Harris, Katie Gildersleeve and Bryan Gildersleeve and four great grandchildren: Ke’Veion Harris, Ke’Shaun Harris, Treasure Harris and Trinity Harris; her siblings Linda Hall and Joe Barry; alongside numerous extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold; her daughter Jackie and siblings: Terry Marin and Jack Barry.
