Joyce R. Hughes, 84, of Marshalltown, IA passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, IA. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. The family requests casual attire be worn. Joyce was born May 21, 1939 to Orville and Ethel (Mast) Kell in Marshalltown, IA. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1957. Joyce was united in marriage to Eddie “Ed” Hughes on July 3, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Marshalltown where they raised their five children. Joyce was the manager of Surplus and Sports Supply in Marshalltown. She enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and volleyball. She loved taking care of her flower beds. Joyce was very active, and water skied often while at their home at Clear Lake.
Joyce will be missed by her five children: Jeff (Jana) Hughes, Molly (Art) Hanford, Scott Hughes, Brad Hughes, Craig (Andi) Hughes; seven grandchildren: Claire Hughes, Ellie Hughes, Tyler (Kelley) Olson, Shelby (Jens) Berggren, Nicole (Rafa) Cruz, Jayden Hughes, Kylie Hughes; seven great grandchildren: Kennedy, Leona, Cecilia, Rory, Leighton, London, Aiden, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, two sisters; Jean Ewoldt, Joan Whitaker and a brother, Jay Kell.
