Marilee Zahnd, 78
Marilee Zahnd passed away, August 19, 2023, at the age of 78. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on January 6, 1945. The daughter of Hubert & Alice (Mier) Paulson, she grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, attending grade school and high school, graduating in 1963.
Marilee graduated from Evangelical School of Nursing in Marshalltown as an RN in 1966. She worked in her profession at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, St. Thomas Mercy Hospital and Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, before retiring from Mercy Medical Center in Centerville in 2010.
Marilee was united in marriage on September 2, 1966, to Richard Zahnd. They lived in Des Moines, Marshalltown and Union areas before relocating to Moravia in 1979. To this union, two children were born: Douglas Zahnd, of Queen Creek, AZ, Julie (Manual Todd) Urban, of Silt, Colorado.
Marilee is survived by her husband, Richard, children, brother, John Paulson, of Waukee, grandson, Jerry Richard Urban, of Silt, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Mary Paulson.
Per her request, Marilee will be cremated and no services are planned at this time. Her ashes will be jointly scattered with her husband Richard at some point in the future.
