Charles M. “Chuck” Mead, 90

Charles M. “Chuck” Mead, 90, of Merritt Island, FL., died August 29, 2023, at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, FL.

Chuck was born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Elizabeth and John Mead Sr. Chuck was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary’s High School where he also excelled in sports.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and Purple Heart Combat Veteran of the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Jacquelin “Jackie” Morgan, who was also born and raised in Marshalltown. They lived in San Diego, CA, until Chuck completed his tour of duty in the Marine Corps when they returned to Iowa.

Chuck was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, IA, with degrees in Dairy Industry and Economics.

After Chuck’s college graduation, the couple returned to Marshalltown where he managed the Family-Owned Mead’s All Star Dairy.

Chuck was active in St. Mary’s Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Elk’s Club, the Jaycees-where he served a term as president and many other organizations in Marshalltown.

He and his wife, Jackie, raised their six children in Marshalltown.

Chuck went on to manage Dairy Production Plants in Illinois, Kansas and Texas. He also managed a Branch of Culligan Water in Kansas.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Rosemary, Catherine, John Jr. and James. And also Chuck’s son, Mike Mead, who preceded him in death January 30, 2023.

Plans are being made by Chuck’s family to fly with Chuck’s cremains back to Marshalltown for a funeral Mass and for burial at Riverside Cemetery where the family owns a plot.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife Jackie of 70 years and five of his six children: Cathy, Pat, Teri, Kevin and Bridget. Also by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and Chuck’s sister Mary “Mead” Blocker.
