Roger Ray Hill, 92

Roger Ray Hill, 92, of Marion and formerly of Tama, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the New Hope Christian Church, 3901 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Roger had donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program.

Roger Ray Hill, born June 9, 1931, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Hugh and Allene (Adair) Hill.

He graduated from Tama High School in 1946.

Roger served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, three of those years in Germany.

He married Katherine “Katie” Doran in 1954 to whom were born sons, Ray Joseph and Robert Dean. Katie passed away in 1957 after which Roger, Ray and Bob lived with Roger’s parents.

In November 1964, he married Chloe Ann Cooper of Montour and are the parents of Paul Cooper, Beth Ann and John Cooper.

Roger was employed nine years by Iowa Electric Light and Power Company followed by a partnership with his brother Fritz in Hill Oil Company. In 1967, he established Hill TV & Appliance in Tama and added Sanitary Refuse in 1981 from which he retired in 1996. He was a highly respected Tama businessman and continued his father’s interest in promoting Tama. He was honored in 1994 as Tama’s Citizen of the Year. Roger was a member of New Hope Christian Church, American Legion, VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagles Tama. He and Chloe Ann moved in 2022 to Terrace Glen Community in Marion.

Roger loved his family and by example helped them develop positive work ethics of their own. He very much enjoyed boating, gardening and earned the designation of Master Gardener. Roger was always ready for the challenge of a good game of Pepper.

Roger and Chloe Ann were blessed with nearly fifty-nine years together, and she survives along with Ray Hill, Bob (Cindy) Hill, Paul (Jen) Hill, Beth (Kelly) Herridge and John (Jenn) Hill; grandchildren: Annie (Brennon), Allison, Alec, Joe (Jadie), Thom, Darby, Lane, Abby, Mackenzie and Halle and great grandchildren: Addyson, Braylon, Myles and recently born Amelia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Fritz Hill, Clifford Hill, Paul Smith, Barbara Shore and Warren Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to New Hope Christian Church.
