She was born August 6, 1931, to Harry and Vera Gallentine in Van Cleve, IA, and attended Van Cleve and Melbourne schools. She was united in marriage to William Gilgen December 15, 1951. Together they raised four boys, Randall (Ruth), of Marshalltown, David (Laura), of Raleigh, NC, Barry (Karen), of Marshalltown and Gavin, of Durham, NC. She is survived by her sons as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband William, parents Harry and Vera, sister Garnet and brothers: Maynard, Dale and Vern.
