Shirley was born on February 3, 1926, in Marshalltown, IA.; the daughter of Roscoe and Josephine (Divis) Boyer. She graduated from Marshalltown High School and married O. Allen “Al” Tarrence on June 21, 1946, also from Marshalltown. As a homemaker, she was a devoted mother for her entire life. A lot of wonderful memories were made being together as a family with laughter being a large part of them.

Shirley loved all sports; often walking to see Scot play baseball. Her main love, however, was basketball and she became an avid Milwaukee Bucks fan, while in Wisconsin, and was delighted to see them win a Championship.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cathy Wershay and her son, Scot Tarrence, both of New Berlin, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kimberly (Ryan) Zehner, of Paris, WI and Bradley Tarrence, of Gilbert, AZ. and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, her parents and her siblings: Frank Boyer, Jeanette (Frank) Hynek, Edward “Spec” (Virginia) Boyer and Wilma (Ed) Rainey. Also preceding her were her nieces Marilyn (Hynek) Weber, Debbie Bachman and her nephews, Ross Boyer and Bruce Devick.

Funeral services will be 11:00 on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, IA, with a visitation one and a half hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA.

Memorial contributions will be directed to Riverside Cemetery to help repair this historical landmark.
