Doug Argent

Douglas Bruce Argent, age 70, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died December 21, 2023, from complications of heart disease.

Doug was born May 1, 1953, in Woodstock, Ontario, and had happy memories and great stories about growing up there. After high school he worked construction for a few years before taking a job at the Fisher Governor plant. He transferred to the Fisher home office and plant in Marshalltown in 1998. Throughout his long career, Doug worked his way up from machinist to senior design engineer, and at the time of his death had been with the Fisher/Emerson company for 49 years. Doug was passionate about his work and devoted to the company and to his co-workers.

Outside of work, Doug was known for his life-long love of motorcycles. He appreciated powerful engines and leisurely backroad rides. Doug was also a strong athlete who loved bicycling and rowing. He was especially looking forward to assisting this summer with the Des Moines Rowing club’s accessibility program.

Doug will be missed and fondly remembered by his family and by his many friends in both Canada and the United States. Doug’s ashes will be buried in a family plot in Woodstock, next to his parents.

All those who knew Doug are invited to a memorial celebration at the High Life Lounge in Des Moines on January 15th at 5:30 p.m. A second celebration will be held at Vaughn’s Pub in Marshalltown on January 20th at 4 p.m.
