Wayne was born at home on October 13, 1943, in Grundy County, Iowa. He is the son of Robert Katzer and Velma Katzer Sheller. He attended Grundy Center community schools, then received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at University of Michigan.

He spent many years working as a sound engineer for Chrysler Corporation in Michigan. He also worked for a time designing water park slides for Miracle Recreation in Grinnell, Iowa, as well as mechanical engineering for Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines.

Wayne was an avid and well-known classic car enthusiast, with a passion for collecting, designing, building, and racing muscle cars. He delighted in sharing his expertise and excitement with many fellow hobbyists. He enjoyed classical music, with a special appreciation for Bach's organ music. He was an open-minded and accepting man who was fascinated with the mysteries of the universe.

He was a consummate gentleman who will be widely remembered and appreciated for his generosity, selfless friendship, kind personality and bright and witty sense of humor.

Wayne is survived by his daughter Kristen, of Colorado. He will be missed by his sister JoAnn, of Des Moines, brother Ken, of Minnesota, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
