Larry Raymon

Larry Allen Raymon died Saturday, February 3, 2024, peacefully in his home with the love of his life and wife, Joynell Raymon. He is survived by Brian (Michiko and Clay), Chad (Amanda) and Jared. His brother, Wayne Rayman, still lives near their childhood home and Janice Rayman, (sister in law) who lives in Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was born July 19, 1943 in Belle Plane, IA and graduated from 8th grade in a one room country school house in Tama County. He was the only student in his class. Larry served in the Iowa National Guard from 1961-65 and married Joynell on November 20th of that same year. Larry would go to get his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in 1968 graduating with a 3.6 grade average and being awarded the “Future Business Teacher of America.”

Larry’s resume and accomplishments are too vast to list, however it is safe to say the second love of his life was he and Joynell’s manufacturing company: Raymon Enterprises. Larry began running the company in 1979. It sat over a bowling alley, had six employees and was bankrupt. The working budget at that time was one drill bit per trip to the hardware store when the other broke. Over the next series of years Larry fought off bankers, creditors, and naysayers and built Raymon into one of the finest manufacturing companies in the world. In 2023 Iowa named Larry a “Legend in Manufacturing.” Recently Larry “retired” from Raymon naming Chad Raymon president and CEO – He moved offices and cut down to about 60 hours a week.

Of late, Larry’s newest passion was the Raymon Veterans Memorial Park which is a park he and Joynell built for all veterans who have served their county honorably. The Veteran’s Park was Larry’s long-standing dream and will be his legacy going forward. It is located in Albion, IA.

Larry was compassionate, hardworking and had an unwavering love for his family and country. He was our hero and will be forever missed.
