The funeral service for Mel will take place on Saturday February 10, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will take place one-hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear purple in memory of Melody and Alzheimer’s Awareness. She will be laid to rest at Conrad Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, John J. Koontz, of Ankeny, IA; her children: Allison (Eric Adams) Raum, of Ankeny, IA and Jay (Allison) Koontz, of Clive, IA; her five grandchildren; and her siblings; Diane (Richard) Everett, of Waterloo, IA, Mary (Wayne) Bracy, of Conrad, IA and David (Sharla) Brindle, also of Conrad, IA.
