Vernon L. Pals, 84, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Eagle Point Nursing Home – Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be 11:00 am-1:00 pm, Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be in the Dillon Cemetery in Dillion, Iowa, on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Serving as pallbearers will be Garrett Pals, Sarah Pals, Violet Pals, Dakotah Wolken, Greg Wolken, Chad Hoover, Chad Gould, Norm Newsam, Kevin Cooper and Darrell Sawyer. Vernon Leon Pals was born August 24, 1939, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Lambert and Wilma (Vierkant) Pals. He was a 1957 graduate of Meservey High School, his bachelor’s degree from University of Northern Iowa and earned his masters degree from the University of Minnesota St. Paul. After getting his teaching degree he began his teaching career in Gowrie, Iowa. This is where he met the love of his life Geneene Hoover. They were married on June 7, 1964.
Vernon worked as a science teacher at the Camanche High School from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. He was a hard working man and enjoyed working in the summer painting tanks. He loved spending time outside and tending his gardens where he was known to have the most delicious tomatoes. He was a member of Cross View Church in Fulton and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Geneene Pals, of Clinton, three children: Jamie (Inge), of Seattle, Washington, Brian (Shan), of Farmington, Minnesota, and Marcie (Darrell), of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren: Sarah, Garrett and Violet; siblings: Dennis (Ehande) Pals and Marilyn Reysack; sisters-in-law: Janice Wolken and Carol Hoover; brother-in-law: Arden Johnston and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Lambert and Wilma, sister: Joanne Johnston, brothers-in-law Jack Reysack, Gerald Wolken and Wesley Hoover; and sister-in-law Thelma Pals.
