Dora Jean Rittierodt was born December 16, 1927, to William and Alma (Henze) Rittierodt of State Center. She attended State Center High School, and despite her height, was a very scrappy basketball player. On November 22, 1947, she married Richard Pfantz shortly after his return from military duty. The family farmed for many years in the State Center and Colo areas the last of which was a dairy farm southwest of Colo. The family then moved to the Colo community where Dora Jean worked for many years at the branch of State Bank and Trust in Colo. She was “the favorite teller” for many of the bank's customers throughout those years. Dora was active in her church life at St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center and in her community life in Colo serving as treasurer of the Colo Community School District.

Left to cherish Dora Jean's memory are two sons, Larry (Ann) Pfantz of Marshalltown and Rod (Jeanine) Pfantz of Eldora; her grandchildren, Jenni (Amy Hedblom) Pfantz of Mingo, Jeff (Jennifer) Pfantz of Marshalltown, Jamie (Tony King) Pfantz of Durand, WI, Rodney Pfantz of Nevada and Kelsi (Billy) Black of Durand, WI. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren Kaylem, Emma, Peyton, Nicholas, Wyatt, Noah and Maelori. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Helen Rittierodt of Westminster, CO, and Helen Boyce of Green Valley, AZ.

In death Dora Jean has rejoined her husband Richard, son Dennis, parents William and Alma Rittierodt, and brothers Don Rittierodt and Jerry Rittierodt. Memorials may be directed to her family or to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
