Edward “Ed” Francis Boston, 81, of Salida, died Feb. 7, 2024, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.

He was born Aug. 8, 1942, in Jericho Springs, Missouri, to Frances and Beatrice (Wolf) Boston.

He married Joan L. Wickersham Sept. 4, 1964, in Melbourne, Iowa. They lived in Marshalltown, Iowa, where Mr. Boston farmed and worked at Fisher Controls as a skilled trade die and tool maker.

They made a decision to move to Salida after surviving a private plane crash near the top of Tincup Pass. They were embraced by the Salida community during their rescue and spent many months recuperating.

Mr. Boston enjoyed collecting classic cars, being a “Ford Guy,” collecting old tractors and fabricating trailers.

The couple traveled extensively, visiting almost 40 different countries by cruise ship and 49 states by private plane.

Mr. Boston was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dale and Lloyd.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years; sister, Charlotte Coulthard and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded by Holt Funeral Home in Cañon City.

A service and interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Lamoille, Iowa, will occur at a later date.
