Larry Miell was born on July 7, 1935, to Norma (Reed) and Earl Miell, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Central City High School. At a country church in Waubeek, IA he met Shirley Schley, they married on June 29, 1955. They built a wonderful life in the 68 years and were blessed with five children: Steve, Greg, Kelly, Kent, and Beth. The family would take annual trips to Minnesota to different resorts. Larry always made time for the love of his life by taking Shirley on a yearly trip.

Larry was known as a hard worker, he worked at Wilsons in Cedar Rapids and transferred to Gladbrook when the Hog Buying Station opened. The couple also had an acreage where Larry raised hogs. Many knew him by his license plate LHOGG. After retiring Larry had to keep busy so he bought a Kettle Korn Popper and become known as “Kettle Korn King”. And Shirley thoroughly enjoyed their business endeavor. He and Shirley traveled to pop kettle corn at local farmer’s markets, Corn Carnival, and the Double D Rodeo.

He was a great father to his children, he loved and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren. He was a very loving, generous, and faithful man to his family and friends. He also loved gardening and flowers.

He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and choir. Larry was also member of the Man Cave Coffee Club, where he was proud to announce when one of his grandchildren went with him. The time he spent at the Man Cave was a very important part of Larry’s life.

Larry is survived by his wife of 68 years Shirley; his children: Steve (Kathy) Miell of Gladbrook, Greg Miell of Gladbrook, Kelly (Shana) Miell of Los Angeles, CA, Kent Miell of Pueblo, CO, and Beth (David) Wiese of Montour, IA; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings: DeVee, JoBelle, Dana, and Dave.
