On June 5th, 1966, he was married to high school sweetheart, Marlene Meyer, in Huron, SD. In November of 1970, the young couple moved to Marshalltown where he was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Roger retired from the Iowa DHS through the Iowa Veterans Home.

On Monday evening, just 12 hours prior to his passing, he fulfilled his last earthly duty- performing the marriage of his granddaughter, Madeline (Quinton) Ward. He was able to see his brother George later that evening, and faded into eternity early the next morning.

Left to cherish his memory are Marlene, his loving wife of 57 years; son Scot (Stephanie) and daughter Dawn (Noel) Diser; grandchildren–Emmett, Madeline, Seth, Cassidy and Nicole; brother George (Mary Corrine); niece Katy (Craig); sister-in-law Ann Meyer, niece Janell, and nephew Brad, as well as many friends.

In death, Roger rejoined his parents and brother-in-law Bobby Meyer.
