Wayne Eggers

Wayne Merle Eggers, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa was called to join his eternal savior on March 20, 2024 with his family by his side.

Wayne was born on January 3rd, 1936 during a blizzard on his families’ farm west of State Center, IA on highway 30. Wayne grew up on this farm with his parents, Marvin and Alice (Henze) Eggers and his siblings; Ross, Darwin, and Marlys. Wayne graduated from State Center High School in 1953. He was active in baseball and football in high school. Wayne enlisted in the United States Army on March 1st of 1954. He served at Fort Leonard in Missouri, Fort Bragg in North Carolina, and Germany. Wayne was honorably discharged February 1956. On Valentines Day in 1954 Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Darlyne Myers. They were married for twenty years and into this union four children were born. Kevin Eggers and Kayla (Brian) Danielson of Marshalltown, Kristie (Craig) Bortz and Kelly Fields of Cedar Rapids. After Wayne’s return from the Army, Wayne and Darlyne made their home in State Center, IA. Wayne was employed by the City of State Center. In 1962 Wayne began his career with Iowa Electric. Wayne and Darlyne moved their family to Marshalltown. They resided on Summit St. and later built a new home on Newcastle Road.

In January of 1977 Wayne was united in marriage to Phyllis Miller and blended their families with children Beth Brindle, Anne Chance, Jill Muller, and Vona Collins. Wayne was a proud member of the IBEW Local # 204. Wayne was a lobbyist at the Iowa State House. Wayne attended three International Conventions. Wayne attended the 100-year IBEW convention in St. Louis, Missouri. Wayne and Phyllis made homes in Marshalltown, Guthrie Center, and Melbourne, Iowa. Wayne retired in 1991 from Alliant Energy. Wayne spent his retirement years attending numerous sporting, music, and scouting events for his grandchildren. Wayne enjoyed traveling after retirement. Wayne visited all 50 states, 7 countries, and 5 cruises. Wayne enjoyed many day trips to visit all 99 counties of Iowa. Wayne was a proud man. He loved his family. Wayne was always up for a good joke. Wayne and Phyllis moved in 2010 to Village Cooperative of Marshalltown. They enjoyed their beautiful apartment and enjoyed so many wonderful times here with friends. In March of 2023 made the move to Glenwood Place.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis, his children, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great, great-grandchildren, and his sister Marlys (David) Taylor, sisters-in-law; Mary Beth and Marcia Eggers, and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by Darlyne (Myers) Eggers, Alice and Marvin Eggers, Lester and Leota Myers, and his two brothers, Ross and Darwin Eggers.

A memorial service for Wayne will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday March 24th, 2024 at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Marshalltown with Pastor Mike Herschberger officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Wayne’s name may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
