William “Bill” Decker

William “Bill” Decker, 89, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Private memorial services will be held. Bill was born June 13, 1934, to George “Cleo” and Mildred (Morrison) Decker in Marshalltown, IA where he was raised with his sisters, attending Marshalltown High School. On February 23, 1952, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Ralf, in Des Moines, IA. Bill worked for Fisher Controls as a Maintenance Supervisor. After 39 years, he retired from Fishers on September 1, 1986, but couldn’t help wanting to go back to work. He worked for Morgan Hauser Steel, and later worked for Raymon until about three years ago. In his free time, Bill enjoyed boating, especially on the Mississippi River on their boat “Summer Place”, traveling, and any time spent with his family. He found a special talent in woodworking, creating a variety of projects including grandfather clocks, doll houses, furniture, music boxes, jewelry boxes, toys, and more. He made several gifts for his family, including a cedar chest for graduations. He was hardworking, caring, and will be greatly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 72 years, JoAnn of Marshalltown, one daughter, LeeAnn (John) Murray of Marshalltown, one daughter-in-law, Marcia Decker of Hiawatha, seven grandchildren; Maria (Zosh) Zeutenhorst, Alaina Daters, Audra (Matthew) Guerney, Maria (Brett) Decker, Steven (Jenny) Murray, Chelsea Shaffer, and Libby (Matt) Frazier, as well as 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Denny Decker and Tom Decker, one granddaughter, Kara Mercer, and three sisters; Beverly Cross, Donna Davis-Allee, and Mary Jo West.
